Chocolate Swirl Rolls

It's winter and it's so cold...even though it doesn't snow. So, I made these warm chocolate swirl rolls which are so light and delicious!

You will need:

DOUGH:
  •  3 cups of flour
  •  1/2 cup of sugar
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1/2 tbsp yeast
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 200ml of milk
  • 1 tbsp of cinnamon powder
FILLING:
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 - 1 1/2 cups of dark or milk chocolate
OTHER: 1 beaten egg

Procedure:

1. Take a saucepan and melt the butter. Add the milk until combined. Then take it off the heat and let it cool down. When the mixture is warm, but not too warm, add the yeast. If the mixture is too hot, the yeast will die, so make sure it is lukewarm before adding the yeast. Mix until combined.

2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon powder. Then add 3/4 of  the wet mixture. Mix and then add more of the wet mixture if needed. Keep mixing to form a dough.

3. Once it becomes a dough, start kneading it on a lightly floured surface for 5 minutes. Then transfer into a bowl, cover with cling film and set aside in a warm place to rise for 1 hour.

5. After your dough rises, punch it down to knock out all the air. Then, take half of the dough and use a rolling pin to roll it into a rectangle (or a rectangular oval?). Mix the 2 tbsp of butter and sugar in a bowl and spread it all over the rolled dough.

6. Time to chop up the chocolate!

Look at that goodness!

7. Then, sprinkle the chocolate on one half of the dough. Fold it in half and cut into small strips like shown below:

8. Take each strip and roll it to form a cinnamon roll kinda thing. Then transfer onto a baking tray and again, let it rise for 30 to 45 minutes.

9. Take the beaten egg and brush all over these buns. Then bake in to oven for 15-20 minutesuntil golden-brown.

You could also dust some icing sugar on top...

Eat while warm!
You could also make a chocolate dipping sauce by melting some of the chocolate and adding some milk to it!
